There's a veteran in Texas and a whole bunch of his friends that are supplying wood and nails to our soldiers in Iraq. The G.I. Woodshop uses your donations to buy and send needed items to our frontline warfighters. They normally send hobby and woodshop items since they are so hard to obtain overseas. There are no Home Depots, Lowes or WalMarts in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
In order for troops to do something as simple as hanging a picture of their loved ones on the wall, they first have to "find" a nail, then "appropriate" a hammer - or use their boot to nail it. The packages mean a lot to these guys. The forces are stretched very thin when it comes to these types of niceties, like chairs or reading tables. Their budgets are rightly focused on "hardening" the bases and the "Four B's" - bombs, bullets, beans and bandages - which keep our warfighters fit and safe in combat - and enables them to do their job of winning the fight.
But you would be surprised at what a G.I. can do with just a hammer and some nails
Please click on the G.I. Woodshop and see the wonderful things they are doing for our troops.
